Data Update 1: What To Ask Of The Data?
1. What dataset will you use for your final report? (title of your dataset, include a link to it and claim it at the URL above).
The dataset that I will use for my final report is “Socioeconomic characteristics of the 2SLGBTQ+ population, 2019 to 2021”.
2. Describe the dataset. What kind of data does it contain?
The dataset compares the numbers and proportion of persons between the 2SLGBTQ+ community and the non-2SLGBTQ+ community from the age of 15 in different sociodemographic categories. The sociodemographic categories, which are also the subjects of comparison, are arranged into rows. The categories include marital status, household types, place of residence, Indigenous identity, visible minority identity, immigrant status, languages, highest level of education, personal income, working status, perceived health, and perceived mental health. In each category, there are many sub-categories. The dataset also has a filtering feature that will show the detailed data in each province and gender by expanding the columns.
3. Is there anything about your data that you don’t understand? (i.e. what a column heading means). How will you find this out?
No, as of now.
4. What are some questions you hope to answer with your data? List at least three. (you don’t need the answers at this point)
- Which province has the highest percentage of the 2SLGBTQ+ population?
- Which province has the lowest rate of unemployment among the 2SLGBTQ+ population?
- In which province is the rate of unemployment among the 2SLGBTQ+ community lower than the non-2SLGBTQ+ community?
- In which provinces is the percentage of fair-or-poor self-rate mental health among the 2SLGBTQ+ community lower than the national average?
- What is the most common highest level of education among the 2SLGBTQ+ community?
- Between men and women who belong to the 2SLGBTQ+ community, which has a higher employment rate?
Hi Leslie, I like the data you have chosen. I also like how the data has filtering to differentiate the data for each province. I think unemployment, mental health, employment and education are interesting factors to look at.

ReplyDeleteHey Leslie, you have make a data update on the important subject of community diversity. I appreciate that you have identified various types of classifications in social demographics, which helps me gain a deeper understanding of the composition of Canada's population, a comprehensive insight into the economic conditions within the 2SLGBTQ+ community, and through the data, a more in-depth study of potential social issues. Your questions are insightful and can understand social intersections from the data, such as identifying which groups have more privileges.
ReplyDeleteHi, Leslie. This post offers a clear overview of the dataset, including its contents and potential for analysis. while also conducting comparative analyses between the 2SLGBTQ+ and non-2SLGBTQ+ populations to unveil disparities and trends effectively. To improve, consider briefly defining terms like "unemployment rate" and "mental health" for clarity. Overall, it provides a solid foundation for exploring the socioeconomic characteristics of the 2SLGBTQ+ population. Good job !
